How Waypoint works, step by step

1QuestionsWaypoint asks what you study, what you enjoy, what you are good at, what you want and what you will not do. You choose an option or type your own words.
2ConfirmWaypoint reads your answers back to you word for word. You confirm them or edit them before Waypoint makes anything.
3DirectionsWaypoint suggests three career directions. Each one quotes your own words, and for ANU students each one links to real units in the ANU handbook.
4JobsWaypoint searches live job ads in your chosen direction, then ranks each ad against your skills and interests.
5PlanWaypoint turns the career direction you chose, and the jobs you saw, into a plan of steps. Each step lists the time it takes, a free or low-cost resource, and a piece of work you can show an employer.
6Check-inA few weeks later, you come back to Waypoint. You and a mentor or careers adviser review your progress, and Waypoint updates your plan.

Is this just a chatbot?

No. Waypoint asks every student the same questions in the same order, then reads your answers back for you to confirm. Each career direction quotes your own words, and Waypoint points only at real units, job ads and resources. Once your plan is made, you can ask Wayne, Waypoint's AI guide, questions about it.

Does it decide for me?

No. Waypoint gives you three directions and a plan. You choose what to do next, and a course adviser confirms any change to an enrolment.

Where do the job ads come from?

Waypoint searches live job ads through Adzuna with phrases chosen for each direction. If the search fails, it falls back to saved ads.

Which universities does it work for?

Waypoint lists 42 Australian universities and a program list for each one. ANU handbook detail covers 339 ANU programs.

Can it help with visas or work rights?

No. Work rights and visa questions go to the university's international student support team.

What does Waypoint keep about me?

Waypoint keeps your visit in this browser tab only. Closing the tab removes it. There is no account and nothing to sign in to. Our server logs each model call, but not your answers.
